At GTC – Goldfields Education and Support Centre, we understand that every family has different schedules, responsibilities and educational needs.
That is why we offer additional services designed to provide families with greater flexibility while giving learners a safe, supportive and structured environment in which to develop academically and personally.
Our Aftercare Programme and Extra Classes complement our regular educational support services, allowing parents to choose the additional assistance that best suits their children’s needs.
Aftercare at GTC
A Safe, Caring and Supervised Environment
Our Aftercare Programme provides families with a convenient solution for learners who require supervision and care after GTC’s regular educational support sessions have ended.
We aim to create a welcoming environment where learners can relax, interact with others, complete appropriate activities and enjoy a positive afternoon experience.
Aftercare Operating Hours
Monday to Thursday: 13:00–17:00
Friday: Closed
Our aftercare service operates during the centre’s scheduled operating periods. Parents will be informed of any changes to the programme or operating hours.
What Our Aftercare Programme Offers
- Supervised Care: Learners are supervised by a responsible adult in a structured environment.
- A Comfortable Environment: Learners have an opportunity to unwind after their regular educational activities.
- Homework Time: Where practical, learners may use part of their afternoon to complete homework or other educational activities independently.
- Social Interaction: Learners can develop friendships and practise communication and interpersonal skills.
- Age-Appropriate Activities: Opportunities for quiet activities, reading, games and other suitable activities, depending on available resources.
- Convenience for Parents: Additional afternoon supervision for families with work or other commitments.
Aftercare Fees
R600 per learner per month
This fee covers the scheduled aftercare service from Monday to Thursday until 17:00.
Aftercare is an additional service and is not included in the regular educational support fee.
Parents are responsible for arranging suitable collection of their children by the designated closing time.
Please note that aftercare is primarily a supervision and care service. It does not automatically include individual tutoring, formal lessons or guaranteed completion of homework and assessments.
Extra Classes at GTC
Additional Academic Assistance When It Matters Most
Every learner encounters challenges from time to time. Some may struggle to understand a particular mathematical concept, while others may need additional help with languages, scientific principles, assignments or examination preparation.
At GTC, our Extra Classes provide focused educational assistance to help learners overcome specific academic difficulties, strengthen their understanding and develop confidence.
These sessions are intended to supplement the learner’s existing educational programme.
What Can Extra Classes Help With?
Understanding Difficult Concepts
Additional explanations and guided examples for topics that learners find challenging.
Mathematics and Mathematical Literacy
Assistance with mathematical methods, calculations, problem-solving techniques and practical applications.
Languages and Comprehension
Support with reading comprehension, language structures, writing skills and subject-specific requirements.
Science and Other Academic Subjects
Focused assistance with topics in Physical Sciences, Life Sciences and other subjects, subject to tutor availability and expertise.
Assessment and Examination Preparation
Revision of important concepts, practice questions, examination techniques and identifying areas requiring further attention.
Study Skills and Learning Strategies
Helping learners develop more effective approaches to studying, organising their work and preparing for assessments.
Who Can Benefit?
Extra Classes may be suitable for:
- Learners who are struggling with particular topics or subjects.
- Learners preparing for tests or examinations.
- Learners who require additional explanations or practice.
- Learners who wish to strengthen their understanding and confidence.
- Learners who need focused assistance beyond their usual educational support arrangements.
Extra Classes may be arranged for learners across different grades, subject to the availability of appropriately qualified or experienced tutors.
Extra Class Fees
R200 per one-hour lesson
- Lessons are arranged in advance.
- Payment is required before the lesson takes place.
- Sessions are subject to tutor availability.
- The subject and learning needs should be discussed when making a booking.
- Any required learning materials or curriculum resources should be made available by the parent or learner.
Extra Class Times
Extra Classes are offered by prior arrangement, generally during available afternoon appointment times.
Parents should contact GTC to confirm suitable times, subjects and tutor availability.
Our Approach to Additional Educational Support
At GTC, we believe that successful learning involves more than simply memorising information.

Important Information for Parents
1. Additional services
Aftercare and Extra Classes are optional services and are charged separately from GTC’s regular educational support programme.
2. Advance payment
GTC operates on a prepaid service basis. Applicable fees must be paid before services are provided, in accordance with the agreed payment arrangements.
3. Bookings and availability
Extra Classes must be arranged in advance and depend on tutor availability. Aftercare arrangements are subject to available capacity and acceptance by GTC.
4. Collection arrangements
Parents or authorised persons must collect learners from aftercare by 17:00. Parents should inform GTC of any changes to their usual collection arrangements.
5. Educational responsibility
GTC is an independent educational support centre and not a conventional registered school. Parents remain responsible for their children’s home education arrangements, curriculum-provider registration, required assessments and applicable legal obligations.
6. Additional support does not guarantee results
Although we strive to provide effective assistance, academic progress depends on several factors, including the learner’s participation, practice and commitment.
